China government warns of backdoor risk in Anthropic\'s Claude Code

China has warned that Anthropic\'s AI coding tool Claude Code has a security backdoor vulnerability. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said an inspection of its cyber security threat platform found the tool could create backdoor risks for corporate users. It also said Claude Code could transmit sensitive information to remote servers without user consent, including user location and identity details. The affected versions range from 2.1.91 to 2.1.196.

China bans \'AI lovers\'; ByteDance, Alibaba to drop companion and persona features

ByteDance and Alibaba are shutting down agent features in key consumer AI products as China moves to regulate services that simulate human-like personalities and emotional interaction. Doubao users were notified the agent function will end on July 15, with related data managed under the company’s privacy policy after Oct. 15 and not recoverable. Alibaba’s Qwen will end human-like and user-generated agents on July 10 and further agent services on July 15.
