Kakao adds \'Local News\' tab to KakaoTalk in North America for Korean users

Kakao has added a 생활정보 service for local Korean users on KakaoTalk in North America by introducing a \'Local News\' feature on the app’s third tab. Users can view region-specific Korean community businesses, notices from overseas diplomatic missions and information on open chat rooms run by local users without installing another app. The company also signed an MOU with South Korea’s foreign ministry to deliver safety and consular notices.

South Korea to brief Seoul-based diplomatic corps on global AI hub plan

The South Korean government will brief the Seoul-based diplomatic corps on its plan to build a \"global AI hub\" and identify country-by-country cooperation needs. The Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a joint briefing on Tuesday with envoys from about 60 countries attending. The government said it aims to share the hub’s direction and develop demand for cooperation using AI to solve problems.

Inter-agency task force launched to tackle AI-related crime; 10 agencies join

A South Korean inter-agency consultative body has officially launched to respond to crimes abusing AI, including deepfake sexual exploitation, false or unfair AI advertising and AI financial fraud. The Korea Communications Commission said it held a kickoff meeting on June 26 to discuss a comprehensive plan to eradicate AI crime and measures to build an integrated response system. Ten agencies are participating, including the science ministry, justice ministry, financial regulator, police and others.
