Naver is expanding the scope of travel information it provides in overseas travel searches so users can explore everything from entry and safety information to restaurants and attractions at once.
Naver said on Thursday it has strengthened search results for major Asian travel destinations including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong and Macau, following Japan.
The overhaul covers 45 areas including Nha Trang, Da Nang, Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Bali, Cebu, Taipei, Hong Kong and Macau.
When users search for these countries or cities, they can check basic information such as weather, exchange rates, visas and recommended travel periods, along with comprehensive entry guidance and safety notices provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
It also created a "related information" section where users can look up additional details depending on their travel purpose or preferences. Users can continue searching by topic, including places to visit, restaurants, travel guides, things to do, hotels, when to go and recommended itineraries.
Each section will show destination photos and videos posted on Naver Blog and Clip, as well as content produced by tourism authorities and travel media outlets.
It also provides destination recommendations using AI. Based on travel content written by users on blogs and cafes, Naver selects recently popular restaurants and notable attractions and activities such as theme parks and shows them in a collection format.
Selecting a recommended place links users to an overseas place page where they can check location and detailed information.
Naver plans to expand the regions covered by its overseas travel search to the Americas after this Asia update.
Choi Ji-hoon (최지훈), head leader for Naver Place search, said the company strengthened overseas place information and the search experience as the number of users exploring overseas travel information on Naver continues to increase. He said it plans to gradually expand the countries and cities covered to the Americas.
