Bitcoin volatility falls below South Korea\'s KOSPI

Bitcoin’s recent volatility has fallen to a level below South Korea’s benchmark KOSPI index, according to a report. Bitcoin’s 30-day realised volatility is about 42 percent and has stayed below 50 percent throughout April. Over the same period, the KOSPI’s volatility rose as high as 74 percent and remains around 51 percent, while Pakistan’s KSE100 is also about 51 percent. The shift is linked to increased institutional inflows after U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs launched in January 2024.

Shin Hyun-song, Bank of Korea governor, pushes digital currency and won internationalisation, sets four tasks

Shin Hyun-song (신현송), the new governor of the Bank of Korea, set out four core tasks in his inaugural address on Monday: price and financial stability, internationalisation of the won, responding to digital currency and contributing to structural reform. He cited uncertainty from supply shocks linked to the Middle East war and shifts in financial conditions, and said he would pursue cautious and flexible monetary policy while strengthening early-warning tools and expanding analysis beyond traditional financial indicators.

MSIT to pursue R&D special zone supplementary budget program to support deep-tech startups

South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said on April 21 it secured an additional 6 billion won in a 2026 supplementary budget for its R&D Special Zone Promotion program and will push ahead with “5 hubs, 3 special R&D special zones deep-tech support.” The ministry said the program aims to help regional economies recover and stabilize livelihoods. It will support deep-tech start-ups and early-stage companies through commercialization discovery and technology advancement support.
