President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) on Thursday appointed Shin Jin-chang (신진창), secretary general of the Financial Services Commission, as vice chair of the commission.
Kang Yoo-jung (강유정), senior spokesperson at Cheong Wa Dae, announced the appointment in a written briefing.
The new vice chair Shin is from Geumsan in South Chungcheong province. He has served as director general for structural reform policy at the commission, and as head of the Financial Industry Bureau and the Financial Policy Bureau.
Kang described Shin as an economic official with deep insight into financial markets and industry. She said he demonstrated expertise across the board, including stabilising funding markets after the Middle East war, financial support for ordinary people and small merchants, and real estate financial policy, based on strong drive and a feel for the field.
She also said he was the right person to lead warm, inclusive finance that saves people, while completing a transition to productive finance that revives the economy.
