Google in talks with Marvell to co-develop inference-focused TPU and new memory processing unit
Google is discussing plans with Marvell Technology to jointly develop two new chips that could run AI models more efficiently, The Information reported, citing two sources. One chip is a memory processing unit designed to work with Google\'s tensor processing units, splitting AI workloads by compute and memory demands. The other is a new TPU specialised for running AI models. The companies aim to finalise the design as early as next year and begin trial production.

Nvidia to invest $2 billion in Marvell to expand AI chip networking technology
Nvidia will invest $2 billion in Silicon Valley chipmaker Marvell, the Financial Times and Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday. The move aims to strengthen competitiveness in networking technology linking AI data centres. The two companies will jointly develop silicon photonics to upgrade data centre networking systems and increase data transmission speeds. Marvell has supported U.S. cloud service companies, including Amazon, in designing in-house AI chips.

Candu AI raises $225 million, aims to ease AI chip bottlenecks with copper instead of optics
Swiss semiconductor company Candu AI has raised $225 million in a Series A round, The Next Web reported. The round was led by Maverick Silicon, with SoftBank, Synopsys, Cadence Design Systems and Alchip Technologies as strategic investors. Candu AI was valued at $400 million in the round. The company says copper is still viable, claiming its approach can boost link speeds and sharply reduce power use and system costs.
