MSIT discusses platform policy in AI era at strategic task forum

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT reviewed changes in the platform industry environment stemming from the spread of artificial intelligence and discussed future policy direction. The ministry held a strategic task forum in Seoul with the Digital Platform Policy Forum, the Korea Internet Corporations Association and the Korea Information and Communications Law Association. Presentations covered the value of platforms in the AI era and regulatory issues and improvements. Officials said views raised will be reflected in future policy.

ChatGPT use raises assignment scores by 0.86 points, universities face task of teaching effective use

Generative AI is becoming a routine study tool, but universities now face the challenge of teaching effective use, OpenAI materials show. A Bocconi University experiment on 1,053 first-year students found those using ChatGPT Edu scored about 0.86 points higher on assignments than a control group. Causal reasoning training did not lift scores but helped students produce more diverse ideas and explain outcomes. Usage rates among South Korean university students have risen sharply.

Optimal plan notification countdown stirs telecom industry

From next month, mobile carriers in South Korea will analyse subscribers’ usage and proactively notify them of more suitable rate plans under the optimal plan notification system. Users are expected to benefit by reducing cases of keeping plans that are more expensive than their actual usage. The telecom industry, however, expects pressure from potential declines in average revenue per user and costs to build related systems. The system will first apply to SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus.
