AI full-stack self-reliance is an illusion; focus investment on models and cloud, report says
South Korea cannot achieve AI full-stack self-reliance in the short term because of high foreign dependence across the technology stack, from semiconductors and accelerators to application software, a report said. KISDI urged resetting strategy toward minimum dependence and maximum competitiveness, with near-term 집중 investment in AI models and cloud. A survey of 38 experts found high overseas dependence in six of nine stacks and below-average competitiveness across all areas.

AI framework act cannot stop Mythos, calls grow for resilience-focused regulation
South Korea lacks a practical legal framework to respond to AI-driven security threats, with current rules built on the assumption that intrusions can be prevented, a forum heard on Thursday. Jeong Se-jin (정세진), a lawyer at Lee & Ko, said high-performance AI such as Mythos can find vulnerabilities and attack on its own, beyond existing controls. He urged regulation focused on resilience, dynamic 대응 and clearer accountability for agentic AI incidents.

MSIT releases draft AI ethics principles, seeks public feedback until July
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Information Society Development Institute said on May 28 they had prepared a draft of artificial intelligence ethics principles and would begin collecting public 의견 from May 29. The draft inherits the 2020 government-wide AI ethics standards and reflects enforcement of the AI Basic Act and changes in technology and the social environment. It sets three core values and six principles and seeks feedback until July 8 via an online channel.
