Film holdback talks near conclusion as sides clash over period
South Korea\'s government and the film industry are expected to wrap up discussions on movie holdbacks this month and sign a voluntary agreement. The joint public-private body has been discussing distribution reforms and coexistence measures among cinemas, OTT and other platforms. Separately, lawmakers are considering legislation to mandate a six-month holdback after theatrical runs. Consumer groups oppose a uniform period and say their views are not represented in the talks.

KT to bring AI to home shopping industry, builds cooperation framework with 12 companies
KT is building an AI and big data-based cooperation framework with South Korean home shopping companies to help revitalise the industry. The company held an insight forum in Seoul on July 16 to discuss sustainable cooperation in line with government home shopping industry policies. Representatives from 12 home shopping firms and related associations attended. KT also presented results and a roadmap for its GSI analysis platform and signed a cooperation agreement with the 12 companies.

IPTV industry urges easing of fee and terms rules; US Communications Commission says it agrees with direction but needs to pace changes
South Korea\'s IPTV industry urged the Korea Communications Commission to ease regulations on fees, terms and advertising. At a seminar at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building, the head of the Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association called for legislation to pass in the autumn regular session. Speakers said shrinking advertising and production show an industry downturn despite stable subscriber numbers. The commission said it agrees with deregulation and a shift to post regulation, but called for balanced safeguards.
