The Korea IPTV Broadcasting Association said on Wednesday it will create a total 40 billion won "IPTV Strategic Fund" with IPTV operators including KT, SK Broadband and LG Uplus and start investing in video content from February 2026.

The fund was set up as part of a cooperation framework for the "K-Content and Media Strategic Fund" being promoted by the Korea Communications Commission and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Solare Partners was selected as the general partner.

The main investment targets are video content production projects. It will focus funding on the domestic film sector, which is going through a downturn. It plans to invest from the early stages of production by combining IPTV viewing history data with the manager's investment know-how.

It will also move beyond simple investment to build a future production environment. It plans to invest in new media technology areas such as artificial intelligence and visual effects to secure the fund's sustainability. It is expected to strengthen cooperation between production companies and platforms and boost IPTV content competitiveness.

Lee Byeong-seok (이병석), head of the IPTV Broadcasting Association, said the investment was the result of strategic cooperation to jointly respond to a crisis in the domestic media industry. He said the association would make every effort in its management to deliver tangible results for building a sustainable industry ecosystem.
