U.S. asks Ford, GM if they can boost arms output over EVs
The Trump administration\'s Defense Department is sounding out U.S. automakers on whether they can temporarily defer electric vehicle production plans and increase output of weapons and military supplies. Senior officials discussed the idea with executives including GM CEO Mary Barra and Ford CEO Jim Farley, and also involved GE Aerospace and Oshkosh. The talks are at an early stage. They come as the U.S. EV share of auto sales has fallen since peaking in 2025.

Ford CEO calls for blocking Chinese EVs from U.S. market

He cited Chinese government subsidies and excess capacity, and said Chinese makers often offer cheaper vehicles with more features.
