South Korea, Italy discuss science and technology cooperation in AI, climate and bio
South Korea and Italy will expand science and technology cooperation centred on three areas: artificial intelligence, climate change and bio, South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said. The two countries held the 13th Korea-Italy Joint Committee on Science and Technology in Rome with Italy\'s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. They reviewed outcomes from joint bio and chemistry research, discussed future agendas including physical AI semiconductors and climate-response crops, and explored broader cooperation on brain disease research. The next meeting will be held in Seoul.

Korea to launch cross-government research security response system, pushes new sensitive project category
South Korea will launch a cross-government response system to strengthen research security, aiming to manage risks such as the leakage of research assets and undue foreign interference as international cooperation expands. The science ministry held a meeting with related agencies and experts to review policy direction, plans and operating systems. The government plans to improve conflict-of-interest management, tighten security rules and create a new “sensitive project” category in August.

MSIT launches support programme to build university research security management systems
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT will launch a support programme to strengthen research security capabilities at universities. The ministry held a briefing on June 5 and outlined plans to help universities establish their own research security management systems and sustainable operating foundations. The programme will run from July 2026 to December 2028, selecting eight universities and providing up to about 500 million won per university annually, with lower support this year.
