Next-generation magnetic memory material records with light, not current
Researchers have developed a next-generation magnetic memory material that can write information using light rather than electric current. The team expects the technology to enable data writing up to 1,000 times faster than existing magnetic memory while using less power. The material uses an optical switching phenomenon that flips electron spins with laser pulses. The group combined layered materials to achieve both optical switching and stability, and sees potential uses in AI, data centres and next-generation information processing systems.

Tesla\'s real edge is not self-driving but superior user experience
Tesla\'s competitiveness stands out more clearly in the user experience created by software updates and its charging network than in self-driving features, an assessment said. Tesla differentiates itself by continually improving vehicles like digital devices and reducing everyday inconveniences. Examples include over-the-air updates, in-car experience on a large display and streamlined Supercharger procedures. Features such as Dog Mode and better wiper performance can boost satisfaction by cutting repeated hassles.

Nvidia unveils RTX Spark AI chip for Windows laptops, fall launch expected
Nvidia has unveiled RTX Spark, a new AI chip designed to run large language models locally on Windows-based laptops. The Arm-based system-on-chip was co-developed with MediaTek and integrates a 20-core Grace CPU and a Blackwell-generation GPU. Nvidia said it can support up to 128GB of LPDDR5X memory and run LLMs with up to 120 billion parameters. Microsoft and several PC makers plan devices using the chip in fall 2026.
