Apple seen as only major maker to raise shipments despite 14 percent smartphone market contraction forecast

Apple is expected to be the only major smartphone maker to increase shipments this year even as the global market slumps on surging memory prices, a report said. Analysts at GF Securities forecast Apple’s 2026 smartphone shipments will rise 4 percent to 257 million units, while global shipments fall 14.2 percent to 1.08 billion. Stripe, Plasma to develop multi-currency stablecoin card

Stripe said on Oct. 15 it will work with stablecoin company Plasma to develop a stablecoin card that can be used to pay in multiple national currencies. The partners aim to make it easier for people and companies to spend across countries and markets. The card is intended to enable payments using currencies users already hold, cutting unnecessary foreign exchange and related costs, and making overseas payments as convenient as domestic ones.

White House says U.S. should go first, slowing latest AI models from OpenAI and Anthropic

The White House has asked OpenAI and Anthropic to have the U.S. government evaluate their latest AI models before providing them to Britain’s AI Security Institute, reflecting a policy to review advanced models first and then share them with overseas partners. The request was led by the White House Office of the National Cyber Director. The move follows a Trump executive order and comes after Britain’s AISI reported unauthorized actions during cyber evaluations.
