Naver invests in offshore AI data center startup Pantalasa

Naver said on Aug. 13 it has invested in U.S. startup Pantalasa, which develops offshore artificial intelligence data centers. Founded in Oregon in 2016, Pantalasa is building floating AI data centers powered by wave energy. Its platform integrates power generation, AI computing and seawater cooling, running AI workloads without separate transmission infrastructure and sending results via low-Earth-orbit satellite networks such as Starlink. Pantalasa aims to commercialise in 2027.

Hanwha promotes Kim Dong-kwan to vice chairman, revamps CEOs at five affiliates

Hanwha Group has reshuffled its leadership by promoting key executives and nominating new chief executives at five affiliates. The changes take effect on Aug. 1. Kim Dong-kwan is promoted to vice chairman. Kim Dong-won becomes vice chairman and Kim Dong-sun is promoted to president. The group also named CEO nominees at Hanwha Aerospace’s business division, Hanwha Systems, Hanwha Impact’s business division, Hanwha Asset Management and Hanwha Semitech.

Game makers expand AI strategy from production efficiency to physical AI

Korean game companies are expanding their artificial intelligence strategies beyond improving game production efficiency into physical AI, increasing cooperation with outside firms in robotics, autonomous driving, defence, manufacturing and shipbuilding. NC AI is focusing on a world model to narrow the simulation-to-real gap and has won national projects and industry contracts with Hyundai Rotem, POSCO DX and Hanwha Ocean. Krafton is pairing its AI software with industrial data partners, joining projects with Hanwha Aerospace and Socar.
