China\'s Moonshot AI raises $2 billion at $20 billion valuation
Chinese AI model developer Moonshot AI raised $2 billion at a $20 billion valuation, TechCrunch reported on Wednesday. The round was led by Long-Z Investment, the venture capital arm of Meituan, with participation from Tsinghua Capital, China Mobile and CPE Yuanfeng. TechCrunch said Moonshot has raised $3.9 billion over the past six months and that its valuation rose from $4.3 billion at end-2025 to $10 billion in early 2026.

OpenAI nearly named Freemind in Musk plan to check Google
Court documents show Elon Musk and Sam Altman considered naming their company Freemind before founding OpenAI, and discussed building an AI organisation to respond to Google DeepMind. Emails submitted as evidence include Musk’s view that the name would signal a philosophical counterweight to DeepMind and that digital intelligence should be freely available. Altman initially said the name was too similar to DeepMind but later warmed to it.

Recursive Intelligence raises $335 million, says it will innovate chip design with AI
AI-based chip design automation startup Recursive Intelligence raised $335 million at a $4 billion valuation four months after it was founded. Co-founders Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini previously developed AI chip design technology at Google Brain and Anthropic. Recursive builds AI-based chip design tools rather than chips, and Nvidia, AMD and Intel participated in the funding. The company said its platform can automate layout and design verification, and performance improves as it accumulates design experience.
