AI-based chip design automation startup Recursive Intelligence raised $335 million at a $4 billion valuation four months after its founding.

Recursive co-founders Anna Goldie (애나 골디), chief executive, and Azalia Mirhoseini (아잘리아 미르호세이니), chief technology officer, developed AI chip design technology at Google Brain and Anthropic before founding Recursive Intelligence.

Recursive develops AI-based chip design tools rather than chips. Major chipmakers including Nvidia, AMD and Intel also joined the investment round.

The company said Recursive's AI chip design platform supports automation by AI from placing chip components to design verification. It is structured so performance improves as it accumulates design experience.

The company stressed, "If AI designs chips directly, performance can improve 10-fold." Recursive is discussing cooperation with major chipmakers.
