Sebastian Thrun (세바스찬 스런), who led several AI projects at Google, has co-founded Duolo, a startup that makes AI models for engineering.
The Information recently reported that Duolo has raised $130 million in seed funding. Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Kleiner Perkins chairman John Doerr, DST Global, Construct Capital and Low Carbon Capital took part in the investment, The Information reported, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Thrun founded Google's moonshot unit X and also co-founded Google Brain. He also started the self-driving project that later became Waymo.
Duolo is developing engineering AI models that automate design and verification, with users entering desired specifications and the model producing aircraft or car designs.
Actual manufacturing is left to other companies.
Prometheus, founded by Jeff Bezos, is also developing AI for engineering and manufacturing. Dynatomics, founded by Larry Page, is building a large language model that designs aircraft and flying cars.
