DJI-Insta360 rivalry expands despite U.S. regulation
Competition between Shenzhen-based hardware companies DJI and Insta360 is expanding from drones and 360-degree cameras to vlogging devices, emerging as a key variable in the global smart imaging market. The rivalry is widening across product lines, pricing, talent and patent litigation, while U.S. regulatory action affecting foreign-made drones adds uncertainty. DJI holds about 70 percent of the civilian drone market, while Insta360 leads the 360 camera segment on an annual basis.

NASA releases space selfies shot on iPhone 17 Pro Max
NASA is using consumer smartphones as working cameras on its crewed lunar-orbit mission Artemis II. The agency issued each of the four astronauts an iPhone 17 Pro Max and allowed use during the flight, with internet and Bluetooth disabled and the devices restricted to recording. NASA has released photos taken inside the Orion spacecraft, including crew images shot with the front camera. Lunar imagery has also drawn attention.

GoPro unveils GP3 custom chip with cinema-grade performance
GoPro has unveiled GP3, a custom video-processing system-on-chip it described as its most powerful to date, and plans to use it in a next-generation camera lineup. The 5-nanometer chip more than doubles pixel processing versus GP2 and is set to debut in new products due in the second quarter of 2026. GoPro said GP3 tackles low-light image quality and heat issues, adds an AI NPU, and underpins a push into an ultra-premium imaging market.
