36 trillion won wiped out in a month as domestic ETF net assets stumble

Net assets in South Korea-listed exchange-traded funds stood at 424.7 trillion won as of Oct. 21, down 36.4 trillion won from Sept. 22, data from Korea Securities Depository’s SEIBro showed. Net assets rebounded by about 5.8 trillion won in a day on Oct. 21 but remained more than 36 trillion won below a month earlier. Samsung Asset Management and Mirae Asset Management posted the largest declines, while outflows were notable from semiconductor, AI and leveraged ETFs.

Trading in inverse exchange-traded funds is rising as South Korea\'s KOSPI falls for a seventh straight session. Turnover in KODEX 200 Futures Inverse 2X and KODEX Inverse totalled 2.42 trillion won on Oct. 15. Single-stock inverse products tied to Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix gained, while single-stock leverage products fell about 19 to 22 percent in a day and hit record lows for closing prices.
