Oracle launches compact database appliance for branch and remote sites
Oracle has unveiled an on-premises appliance, Base Database Cloud@Customer, designed to run its database at branch offices, remote sites and small business units. The system targets smaller deployments than the Exadata Cloud@Customer X11M. It comes as an 8U, 14-inch module with two servers based on AMD fifth-generation EPYC chips. It offers flash storage that can be expanded and supports triple mirroring, plus high availability and disaster recovery features.

AMD launches exascale AI infrastructure Helios
AMD has unveiled its Helios rackscale solution, an AI infrastructure platform integrating Instinct MI455X GPUs, sixth-generation EPYC server CPUs, ROCm software and Pensando networking. The company said Helios delivers up to 2.9 exaflops peak FP4 per rack, 31 terabytes of HBM4 and 1.7 petabytes per second of memory bandwidth. AMD said it outperforms rival flagship systems in FP4 performance, HBM capacity and bandwidth, and scale-out bandwidth.

AMD, Anthropic team up to build gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure
Competition to build computing infrastructure is spreading to gigawatt-scale capacity as AI demand grows. AMD and Anthropic said they signed a strategic partnership to deploy an \'AMD Helios\' rack-scale solution using up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 series GPUs. Anthropic plans a first 1-gigawatt build starting in the first half of 2027, expanding its current MI355X-based environment. The two will also cooperate on engineering and software.
