Qualcomm unveils data centre strategy for agentic AI era

Qualcomm is moving to cement its position as an AI infrastructure supplier in the data centre market. At an investor day event on Wednesday, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled data centre-focused CPUs, AI inference accelerators, high-bandwidth computing technology and custom semiconductor solutions under the Dragonfly brand. The company highlighted its C1000 CPU and HBC memory technology, and outlined timelines for sampling and commercial releases through 2028. Qualcomm also said it signed a multi-generation supply agreement with Meta.

Qualcomm unveils AI data centre CPU, secures Meta as first major customer

Qualcomm has unveiled its Dragonfly C1000 data centre CPU, CNBC reported on June 24. Meta plans to adopt the C1000 from the start of mass production in 2028. Qualcomm said the chip is optimised for running AI agents and delivers high computing performance while minimising power consumption. Qualcomm also outlined a data centre roadmap that includes AI chips and products that connect multiple chips.

Variational, Arbitrum-based derivatives startup, raises $50 million

Variational, an Arbitrum-based derivatives startup, has raised $50 million in a Series A round led by Dragonfly Capital. Bain Capital Crypto and Coinbase Ventures also participated, The Block reported. Co-founded by Lucas Schuermann and Edward Yu, the company focuses on bringing traditional finance dealer and exchange liquidity to on-chain trading and plans to offer a range of derivatives, including physical commodities. It plans to list more than 100 traditional finance products on-chain this summer.
