Dragonfly is launching "Special Force Remaster", a rebuilt version of its first-generation first-person shooter "Special Force" that it has operated for more than 20 years, based on Unreal Engine 5.

Dragonfly said it will begin official service for the PC FPS game Special Force Remaster from noon on Sept. 17.

Special Force Remaster retains the combat feel of Special Force, which began service in 2004, while revising its graphics and play system. Executive producer Cheol-seung Park (박철승), the original game's developer, oversaw development.

The game includes Unreal Engine 5-based graphics, firearm progression and customisation, tactical equipment such as drones and RPGs, seasonal ranked matches, a battle pass and a training ground.

Dragonfly began early access on Steam and the Epic Games Store in March, then reflected user feedback for about six months to improve content and systems and carry out stability and optimisation work.

More than 100,000 people took part in a pre-registration campaign held ahead of the official launch. The company will provide all users who log in after launch with rewards for reaching 100,000 pre-registrations, and will offer new users a welcome package once per account.

It will also run events including inviting comrades, Golden Carriage, social media play reviews and ranked-match events alongside the launch.

Since its release, Special Force recorded 79 consecutive weeks at No. 1 in PC cafe game rankings, 6 million cumulative members in South Korea and 100 million cumulative users worldwide.

A Dragonfly official said, "We will take Sept. 17 as a new starting point, listen more closely to users' voices and continuously supplement what is lacking."
