Bae Kyung-hoon says quantum is next after AI, to play key role in future society
Bae Kyung-hoon (배경훈), deputy prime minister and science minister, said quantum technology could be the next national growth engine after AI and should be fostered through large-scale investment. Speaking at the opening of Quantum Korea 2026 in Seoul, he said current AI computing requires high costs and power and could face limits. He said advances and commercialisation in computing are essential for AGI to enter daily life and cited uses of quantum technology in sensing and encryption.

SKT unveils next-generation quantum cryptography at Quantum Korea 2026
SK Telecom is showcasing next-generation quantum cryptography technologies and solutions at Quantum Korea 2026 in Seoul from July 2 for three days. Under the theme of preparing for the AI and 6G era, it is unveiling PIC-based QKD and QRNG, as well as wireless and satellite QKD. SKT also introduced device-tailored security solutions Q-HSM and Q-SSE, and said it will target demand in defence and public sectors while strengthening cooperation with government bodies.

KT joins Quantum Korea 2026 to unveil post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution technologies
KT will take part in Quantum Korea 2026, held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul from July 2 for three days, to showcase quantum cryptography communications technologies and industrial applications. The company will present post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution, along with equipment produced through technology transfer to a domestic manufacturer. KT will also show wired and wireless QKD advances, ongoing wireless quantum transmission work, and pilot cases across public, finance and defence sectors.
