KT will take part in Quantum Korea 2026, held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul from July 2 for three days, to showcase quantum cryptography communications technologies and industrial application cases.
Quantum Korea is a domestic quantum technology event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and others. KT has participated for four consecutive years since 2023, and will operate an exhibition hall this year under the theme, "Where the quantum future begins, KT."
At the exhibition hall, KT will introduce post-quantum cryptography (PQC) and quantum key distribution (QKD) technologies. Post-quantum cryptography is an encryption method designed to withstand attacks by quantum computers, while QKD is a technology that uses quantum properties to securely exchange cryptographic keys.
KT will also exhibit QKD equipment produced by transferring its in-house developed technology to a domestic manufacturing company, along with wired and wireless QKD technologies. KT implemented wired QKD technology at about 300 kbps last year. It is pushing to advance the technology to increase cryptographic key generation and delivery speeds.
KT is also developing wireless quantum cryptographic transmission technology. After succeeding last year in transmitting over a distance of about 4.8 km in a real environment near its Daejeon Daedeok 2nd Research Center, the company is conducting research to extend the operating distance to more than 10 km.
KT will also disclose pilot cases in the public, financial and defence sectors. It will introduce projects including applying PQC to key defence systems, linking different types of quantum cryptography communications between Seoul and Busan, Shinhan Bank's hybrid quantum security network, and encryption of artificial intelligence (AI) medical data at the National Cancer Center.
On July 3, KT will present on the main stage of the DDP Art Hall under the theme, "Toward the quantum internet," and share quantum cryptography communications technologies and future business plans.
Jeon Myeong-jun (전명준), an executive director and head of KT's Enterprise Service Division, said, "Quantum technology is becoming a reality, not a story of the distant future," adding, "We will play a key role in building a domestic quantum ecosystem and securing leadership in the global quantum industry."
