U.S., China step up next-generation LLM race as big tech reshapes coding AI

Competition in large language models is intensifying as leading AI companies in the United States and China release new systems more frequently. China’s DeepSeek released preview versions of V4 and Moonshot AI unveiled Kimi-K2.6. The coding AI market is also being reshaped by capital-heavy companies, including SpaceX securing an option to acquire Cursor for $60 billion.

South Korea privacy watchdog sanctions 3 firms, including Duo, for failing data security measures

South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission held its seventh plenary meeting on April 22 and decided to sanction three companies for violating personal data protection rules. It imposed a total of 4.79 billion won in penalty surcharges and 17.4 million won in administrative fines, and ordered corrective measures and public disclosure. The sanctioned firms were KS Korea Employment Information, Duo Information and Geumneung Park Cemetery, which suffered data leaks after inadequate security and processed resident registration numbers without legal grounds.

As enterprise computing vendors move faster to pair AI agents with both hardware and software, Oracle is stepping up efforts to optimise its core database technology for AI. Its strategy focuses on bringing AI to where data resides so it can be used securely, easily and without lock-in. Oracle has unveiled Oracle AI Database 26ai, which it says places AI at the heart of data management and integrates vector search and an agentic AI framework.
