OpenAI prepares inference residency in South Korea, in talks with local partners to secure GPUs
OpenAI is preparing to introduce “inference residency” in South Korea so Korean users’ AI inference computing is handled at domestic data centres. OpenAI Korea chief Kim Kyung-hoon said the company is discussing securing GPUs and cloud infrastructure with several local partners and expects to offer the service in the near term. OpenAI already supports data residency in Korea, but some data can move overseas during inference.

Sam Altman backs South Korea\'s \'AI for all\' vision, says infrastructure role is key
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman voiced support for the South Korean government\'s \"AI for all\" vision and said it requires bold investment in AI infrastructure. Speaking at an AI summit in San Francisco on July 24 local time, Altman said Korea\'s AI infrastructure projects would help the economy and people and play a key role in helping global AI advance to the next stage. He also met President Lee Jae-myung and held talks with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, with a meeting planned with Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee.
