South Korea speeds up agentic AI ecosystem drive to open one-agent-per-person era

South Korea will speed up efforts to build an agentic AI ecosystem in which AI can plan autonomously and carry out tasks using external systems and tools. The Ministry of Science and ICT announced a joint interagency initiative focused on safety and trust, an open execution base and demand-led adoption. Plans include safety guidelines, evaluation tools, a private marketplace for verified agents, core AI operating system technology and industry consortium pilots.

South Korea launches development of security-focused AI foundation model

South Korea will begin developing a domestically built AI foundation model specialised in cybersecurity, aiming to pool public and private capabilities and expand the model as open source to foster an AI-based security ecosystem. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will accept applications for the project with the National IT Industry Promotion Agency until Aug. 21. One team will be selected and supported with 256 Nvidia B200 GPUs for 10 months.
