Ryu Je-myeong discusses frontier AI safety with UK AI minister
Ryu Je-myeong (류제명), South Korea\'s second vice minister at the Ministry of Science and ICT, met a British official overseeing AI policy on Sept. 30 to discuss cooperation on AI safety and global governance. The two sides agreed on the need to strengthen government oversight and international governance to address risks from the rapid development of frontier AI. Ryu also shared South Korea\'s policy direction following implementation of its AI Basic Act.

MSIT to draw up blueprint for national AI safety ecosystem, master plan due in December
South Korea will prepare a national AI safety policy, using a public-private working group involving industry and experts to detail a management system for responding to AI risks and measures to strengthen safety capabilities. The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will form the working group for a national AI safety ecosystem master plan and begin full operations in October. It plans to finalise the master plan by December after reviewing proposals and consulting relevant ministries.

A recent CNN poll found 75 percent of U.S. adults feel fear or worry about AI development. Banks say they are expanding AI use while keeping strict controls and oversight.
