MSIT launches second phase of AI policy office, putting AI top-three push to execution test

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT has moved its AI Policy Office into a second phase after appointing a new director. The office, created in a government reorganisation last year, oversees AI policy, industry promotion, computing infrastructure, data and safety and trust. The first phase focused on securing GPUs and advancing a homegrown AI foundation model project. The ministry now faces tasks including expanding evaluation standards, rolling out public-facing services and accelerating AI data centre development.

SKT, KT and Kakao ready rollout of \'Everyone\'s AI\' with beta due this month

South Korea has launched the \"Everyone\'s AI\" project to help the public use AI services more easily in daily life. Three consortia led by SK Telecom, KT and Kakao plan to roll out beta services from late this month and move to a nationwide launch within the year. The science ministry outlined development plans and support measures. The government plans to spend about 250 billion won next year, including funds for GPU leasing, system operations and AI agent expansion.

South Korea science ministry gathers views on \'Korea AI ethics principles\', to adopt in August

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT gathered views from industry, civil society and academia ahead of adopting the \'Korea AI ethics principles\', a voluntary code for AI development and use. The ministry and the Korea Information Society Development Institute held a forum in Seoul with about 70 participants. The draft sets three core values and seven principles, and has been revised after receiving 116 written submissions.
