A2A agent communication protocol to be managed alongside MCP under AAIF

Google-developed AI agent communication standard A2A (Agent2Agent Protocol) will be transferred to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), Axios reported on Aug. 17. A2A sets rules for independent AI agents to exchange information and cooperate. Anthropic-led Model Context Protocol (MCP) standardises how AI applications connect to external tools and data. Axios said bringing A2A under the same foundation as MCP could help the industry shift to modular AI systems.

Gartner warns most generative AI projects to run over budget

Gartner forecast that more than half of generative AI projects will exceed budgets because of poor architecture choices and a lack of operational know-how. It also expects most companies seeking to build their own customised models to abandon efforts due to costs, complexity and technical debt. In its 2026 Generative AI Hype Cycle report, Gartner said none of the 30 assessed AI technologies has reached the Plateau of Productivity.

SAP blocks external AI agent access to platform while Salesforce, ServiceNow open up

SAP presented its \"Autonomous Enterprise\" vision at its Sapphire 2026 event, centring on AI agents but taking a different approach from Salesforce and ServiceNow. Techzine reported SAP blocks external AI agents and routes activity through its Joule assistant. An updated API policy explicitly bans AI systems from independently scheduling or executing API calls. SAP executives defended the policy as governance for a multi-tenant platform.
