Baeh Kyung-hoon says telecoms must transform into AI companies as top 3 expand investment

Government, three mobile carriers join to expand AI network investment and strengthen livelihood support

South Korea\'s government and the country\'s three mobile carriers will work together to expand next-generation network investment for the AI era and strengthen measures to support people\'s livelihoods. Vice Prime Minister and Science Minister Bae Kyung-hoon met chiefs of SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus in Seoul on Wednesday to discuss AI-based network upgrades and steps to stabilise living conditions. The ministry plans regulatory changes and a public-private consultative body from August.

NIA begins building \'Hyper AI Network\' for industrial sites with SKT, KT participation

South Korea\'s National Information Society Agency is working with mobile operators, manufacturers and AI companies to build a Hyper AI pilot network based on 5G standalone mode and AI-RAN technology. SK Telecom and KT will lead separate consortia to build AI-based next-generation networks at industrial sites and demonstrate physical AI services using robots. The 17.2 billion won project aims to verify network performance and support commercialisation of ultra-low latency, high-capacity services.
