LG Uplus, LG Electronics join forces to secure core 6G technologies
LG Uplus said on Wednesday it signed an agreement with LG Electronics to jointly pursue early research and development of AI-based communications technologies for the 6G era and to cooperate on international standardisation. The companies plan to strengthen cooperation in key next-generation areas including semantic communications and post-quantum cryptography. They will review network applicability, security requirements and standardisation issues, and hold an annual technology exchange meeting to further shape cooperation.

6G shift talks gain momentum as equipment makers push speed, telecoms urge caution
Discussion on a shift to 6G is gaining momentum, led by telecom equipment makers, while operators remain cautious about investment. At MWC26 in Barcelona, equipment firms said 6G will be key to combining AI with communications and to building AI-native networks. Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon set 2029 for commercialization and launched a strategic cooperation body. Operators cited the lack of finalized standards and clear use cases, and the burden of 5G standalone obligations.

AI-driven engineering workflows and wireless technology trends
From 2026 to 2030, advances in AI and wireless communications are expected to reshape core areas of engineering work. Agentic AI and the Model Context Protocol may simplify workflows by standardising how tools, data and prompts are shared. Hybrid non-terrestrial and terrestrial networks are moving into wider deployment, creating new design and integration tasks. AI is also accelerating changes in embedded software, including virtual sensing, and AI-based reduced order modelling is expected to spread in simulation and design.
