Tennessee regulator orders three prediction markets to stop service, raising debate over conflict with federal rules

Tennessee’s Sports Wagering Council sent cease-and-desist orders to prediction market platforms Kalshi, Polymarket and Crypto.com’s North American Derivatives Exchange on Jan. 9. The regulator said offering sports event-based contracts to Tennessee residents amounts to illegal gambling under state law and ordered all trades voided and deposits refunded by Jan. 31. The platforms say they operate legally under federal regulation as CFTC-registered designated contract markets.
