Hancom advances to phase 2 of sovereign AI project with LG AI Research consortium

Hancom said it will enter the second phase of the Ministry of Science and ICT-led sovereign AI foundation model project after participating as a partner in an LG AI Research consortium that ranked first overall in the initial evaluation. Hancom said its document platform and application service capabilities helped strengthen the consortium’s competitiveness. It plans to work with LG AI Research to broaden adoption of the model in public and corporate areas, including security- and trust-sensitive work environments.

South Korea launches program to develop 500 promising exporters

South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said it will start recruiting companies from Jan. 16 for the K-Export Star 500 program. It aims to select promising exporters and foster 500 firms into “export star” companies with at least $10 million in exports by 2030. The ministry cited export concentration among top firms and said support will be provided with five agencies across marketing, certification and patents, export finance and R&D consulting.

KOSPI market capitalisation tops 4,000 trillion won for first time intraday

South Korea's KOSPI crossed 4,000 trillion won in market capitalisation for the first time during trading on Thursday as the index continued a run of record highs. Market capitalisation stood at 4,009.9 trillion won at 11:20 a.m. The Korea Exchange said the milestone came about three months after the KOSPI first closed above 3,000 trillion won on Oct. 15. Semiconductor shares led gains.
