South Korea to launch excellent PhD scholarship programme for science and engineering
South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Scholarship Foundation said on April 13 they will launch the 2026 excellent PhD scholarship programme for science and engineering this year for the first time. The programme plans to select about 1,000 scholarship recipients, providing 3.75 million won per semester and 7.5 million won per year. About 60 percent of slots will be allocated to non-capital regions. Universities can apply to participate from April 14 to 20.

Park Jong-sung and Jung In-hwa win April South Korea Engineer Award
South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Industrial Technology Association said on April 13 they selected Park Jong-sung of SEMES and Jung In-hwa of Atlas Networks as winners of the April 2026 Korea Engineer Award. Park was recognized for developing MPGA prober equipment for inspecting HBM chips. Jung was cited for developing a VPN-based SD-WAN solution and a wireless mobile test automation platform.

KRX, KSD and KOFIA to conduct on-site review of shortened settlement cycles in U.S. and EU
Korea Exchange will conduct an on-site review in New York and London from April 27 to May 1 with Korea Securities Depository and the Korea Financial Investment Association to support a shorter stock market settlement cycle. KRX said the trip comes as major markets shift to T+1 settlement. The group plans to review U.S. experience and analyse Europe’s strategy through meetings with market bodies and financial institutions.
