SK Telecom’s elite team participating in the government’s “independent AI foundation model” project released a technical report for its 519-billion-parameter A.X K1 model on Hugging Face on Jan. 7. The team said it built South Korea’s first model above 500 billion parameters in about four months using about 1,000 GPUs and around 10 trillion data items. It highlighted benchmark results in math and coding and said it plans to add multimodal functions and scale to trillion-parameter levels within the year.

LG CNS said on Jan. 7 it signed contracts for the Armed Forces Command, Control and Communications Command’s Similar Communications Network Integration project and the Defense Information Systems Agency’s next-generation defence facilities integrated information system project. The network project seeks to unify networks separately operated by the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The facilities project will overhaul existing systems and infrastructure to improve user convenience, boost efficiency, and standardise data across lifecycle tasks.
