The Broadcast Media and Communications Commission said on Wednesday it held an appointment ceremony and the first meeting for the 7th Broadcast Market Competition Assessment Committee on June 17 in the commission’s plenary meeting room.
First established in 2012, the Broadcast Market Competition Assessment Committee is a statutory panel based on the Broadcasting Act that supports efforts to build an efficient competitive system and a fair competitive environment in the broadcasting market.
At the meeting, participants reviewed competition issues in the broadcasting market, including the growth of online video services (OTT). They also discussed ways to build an evaluation system reflecting the broadcast media ecosystem and key tasks to 추진.
At the first meeting, participants agreed on the need for comprehensive market analysis covering all broadcast media, including OTT, and for reforming the evaluation system. They also called for strengthening the function of presenting policy alternatives so that evaluation results lead to institutional improvements. They agreed that swift institutional improvements are needed to receive reliable data submissions from OTT operators.
Lee Sang-geun (이상근), chairman of the committee, said, “Competition assessment is basic data for broadcast media policy.” He stressed the need to re-examine the analytical framework for the broadcast media market and to build an evaluation system that matches the changing media environment.
