Crypto decentralisation promise shaken by interoperability

The cryptocurrency industry emphasises decentralisation, but transferring value between blockchains is influenced by a small number of centralised intermediaries, an industry executive warned. Michael Steuer, president and CTO of Casper Network, said interoperability should be addressed from a user-experience perspective rather than as a technical issue. He said moving assets across chains requires complex checks and carries the risk of permanent loss, while bridges are a prime hacking target and reinforce centralisation.

BlackRock says stablecoins are no longer a niche market

BlackRock released its 2026 global outlook report and warned that the spread of stablecoins could structurally affect emerging-market economies. The report said stablecoins are no longer a niche market and have become integrated into payment, settlement and custody systems. It said rising use in emerging markets could weaken demand for local currencies and reduce governments’ ability to control economies through their currencies. It also said investors may seek alternative stores of value.

Cathie Wood 2026 outlook: Bitcoin may be a better diversification tool than gold

ARK Invest founder Cathie Wood said in a 2026 economic outlook report that bitcoin could surpass gold as a tool for diversification. She wrote that the U.S. economy is in a “coiled spring” state and expects a new productivity cycle driven by innovation including AI and blockchain. Wood named crypto assets and public blockchain technology as one of five core innovation platforms and said they could help cut corporate costs, curb inflation and boost long-term GDP growth.
