A research team led by professor Seung-wook Jeong (정승욱) of Konyang University’s Department of Smart Security unveiled on Friday Veritra, an SSI-based digital identity issuance and verification full stack that passed international standards conformance checks.

Veritra is focused on supporting both the European Union’s EUDI Wallet requirements, mandated for all 27 member states by end-2026, and Korea’s mobile ID at the same time.

The team said Veritra passed OpenID Foundation conformance as “green” for both selective disclosure (SD-JWT-VC) and the international standard mobile ID format mdoc (ISO/IEC 18013-5).

The verification covers all components, including issuer, verifier and wallet. It also includes negative tests that correctly reject invalid requests. The team stressed that cases completing third-party verification are rare while many global solutions remain at the stage of tracking draft standards or conducting internal checks.

Veritra applies the FAPI2 security profile, a security specification used at the level of the financial sector. It also includes operational functions such as integration with hardware security modules (HSM/KMS), automatic key rotation and tamper-resistant audit logs (hash chains).

It adopts a self-hosted approach that does not depend on external clouds. This supports public and financial institutions, where data sovereignty is important, in running it directly in their own IT environments.

The team also highlighted that Veritra can serve as a cross-border bridge, allowing degree, qualification and identity credentials issued in Korea to be recognised overseas as well.

Mobile driving licences and mobile IDs are based on the mdoc (ISO/IEC 18013-5) family, the same as the international standard mobile ID.

Jeong, a professor in Konyang University’s Department of Smart Security, said, “The core of the digital identity era is keeping to standards. Veritra has passed standards conformance, and it will be a starting point for Korea not just to follow international standards in digital identity but to connect to the global market with verified technology.”
