Big-name IP fuels flood of idle RPGs as value-for-money formula draws attention

South Korea's mobile game market has shifted from big-budget MMORPGs to idle RPGs built on established intellectual property, with major publishers planning new launches in 2026. Netmarble, Mgame and Com2uS are preparing titles based on Stone Age, GwiHon and Destiny Child, while Nexon is expected to tap The Kingdom of the Winds. Companies are drawn by shorter development cycles, lower costs and strong early user inflows from known IP, but the market may face sharper competition and fatigue if games lack differentiation.
