U.S. regulators apply same capital rules to tokenised securities

U.S. financial regulators will apply the same capital requirements to tokenised securities as to traditional securities, Cointelegraph reported on Thursday. The Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency issued joint guidance and said they would assess tokenised securities from a technology-neutral perspective. The guidance says blockchain-based trading does not affect capital treatment and that derivatives referencing tokenised securities face the same rules.

Bitcoin DeFi Solv Protocol loses $2.7 million in hack

Bitcoin-based DeFi platform Solv Protocol suffered a hacking attack in which about $2.7 million worth of bitcoin-linked token SolvBTC was stolen, Cointelegraph reported on March 6. The project offered the hacker a 10 percent bounty and asked for the funds to be returned. It said fewer than 10 users were affected and pledged compensation for 38.05 SolvBTC. Security experts said the attack exploited a smart contract reentrancy flaw.

BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes warned that AI automation and escalating Middle East conflict could put severe pressure on the global financial system. He said he is favouring cash, gold and short-term U.S. Treasuries over buying bitcoin in the current market. Hayes predicted 10 to 20 percent of high-income U.S. knowledge workers could lose jobs within 3 to 6 months, risking a banking crisis. He highlighted Hyperliquid as a key project and criticised the CLARITY Act's impact.
