[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Robot AI software company Enigma has raised $71 million in seed funding.
SiliconANGLE reported on July 27 local time that Enigma is developing a foundation model that can be applied to various robots using only small amounts of training data.
The funding round was co-led by Index Ventures and Ribbit Capital, with participation from Conviction Partners. Employees from Google DeepMind, Anthropic and OpenAI also joined as angel investors. Enigma plans to use the funds to hire engineers and secure computing resources.
Industrial robots require separate, task-specific code to learn a new job. Even with the same robot, if the installation environment changes, the configuration scripts must be adjusted again. The same robot arm installed next to conveyor belts of different sizes also needs different settings.
Enigma is developing a foundation model for robots to reduce these problems. The company explained that its model can run on almost any robot and typically needs far less training data than usual when adapted to a new machine.
