MSIT launches research group on improving AI Framework Act
South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT on Tuesday launched a research group on improving the AI Framework Act and held its first meeting. The act took effect on Jan. 22 after passing the National Assembly in December last year through a bipartisan agreement following more than four years of deliberations. The ministry is applying a regulatory grace period of at least one year to minimise confusion for companies in the early phase.

Machi Big Brother trader Jeffrey Huang loses $75 million in six months after leverage bets
Taiwanese American entrepreneur Jeffrey Huang, known as Machi Big Brother, drew attention in crypto markets after once posting a $44.8 million profit on Hyperliquid, a decentralised perpetual swaps exchange. He later suffered 335 liquidations and lost $75 million over six months, leaving about $30,000 in his account. Tracking data showed he then deposited another $500,000 and bought $11.5 million of ether. The case has renewed warnings about risks from high-leverage trading.

Cloud no longer needed? Ultra-large 400B-class LLM runs on iPhone in test
An experiment using Apple hardware and external storage has succeeded in running an ultra-large AI model on-device, drawing renewed attention to on-device AI. AI researcher Dan Woods (댄 우즈) ran a custom Qwen3.5-397B-A17B model on a MacBook Pro by storing weights in external flash memory and loading them only when needed. A similar test later ran on an iPhone 17 Pro at 0.7 tokens per second. Most code was written by Claude Opus 4.6.
