Samsung Electronics labor talks break down, raising fears of May 21 general strike

Samsung Electronics and its labor union failed to reach a deal in post-mediation talks at the National Labor Relations Commission, raising the likelihood of a general strike on May 21. The sides could not narrow differences over performance bonus standards and caps. The union said 41,000 members had expressed willingness to join the strike. Samsung expressed regret and said it would keep talking. The government urged principle-based negotiations and said a strike must not happen.

NCSoft aims for quarterly growth on legacy, new IP and mobile casual three pillars

NCSoft posted a clear earnings rebound after achieving its biggest-ever first-quarter PC sales. The company said it will pursue continued quarter-by-quarter growth based on three pillars: expanding legacy intellectual property, globally launching new IP and ramping up mobile casual. Co-CEO Byung-moo Park said he was confident revenue and operating profit will keep rising quarter on quarter and year on year. The company highlighted Lineage Classic, plans for Aion2 and the integration of Germany's JustPlay.

EBay rejects $56 billion GameStop bid, spotlight returns to bitcoin strategy

EBay rejected GameStop’s $56 billion takeover proposal, bringing renewed market attention to GameStop’s bitcoin exposure. The EBay board declined a $125-per-share offer split evenly between cash and stock, citing doubts about credibility and financing. EBay shares traded well below the offer price. GameStop holds about $368 million in bitcoin exposure via a covered call strategy and moved most of 4,709 BTC to Coinbase Prime, recorded as receivables.
