Google in talks for $1.5 billion deal to license Mechanize technology, targets AI coding expansion
Google is in talks with AI coding startup Mechanize over a deal worth about $1.5 billion, including securing a non-exclusive licence to its technology and hiring some staff involved in model evaluation and development. Mechanize, founded last year, is developing simulation environments, evaluation benchmarks and scoring systems to train AI agents. Google is considering using the technology to strengthen coding performance as its coding agent faces competition from Anthropic and OpenAI.

Datadog shares tumble despite quarterly results beating expectations
Datadog shares closed down 19 percent despite quarterly results and a full-year outlook that topped market expectations. Second-quarter revenue rose 36 percent to $1.12 billion, above the FactSet estimate of $1.08 billion, and adjusted earnings were $0.65 per share versus $0.58 expected. Executives said a large AI customer renewed a nine-figure dollar contract but plans to cut product usage this year.

ChatGPT to offer unlimited text chat for free users
OpenAI will introduce unlimited text chat for ChatGPT free users and paid users, TechCrunch reported on Aug. 6. ChatGPT, which recently surpassed 1 billion weekly users, will also switch the default model for free and paid users from GPT-5.5 to GPT-5.6 Luna. Other updates begin this week, while unlimited text chat and a Think button arrive next week. Plus and Pro users will get GPT-5.6 Sol and a reasoning slider.
