[DigitalToday Seung-ah Yoo, intern reporter] Tesla has postponed its next-generation Roadster reveal event again. The event, originally scheduled for Oct. 1, has been pushed back to Oct. 15.

On Sept. 28 (local time), Tesla said on X, formerly Twitter, that it had been closely checking the weather with local meteorologists. It said severe conditions were forecast and it could only hold the event outdoors, so it changed the schedule. Tesla described it as a "difficult decision."

The reveal event is expected to be held near Waco, Texas, at a SpaceX rocket test site. It is reported to be outdoors because Tesla plans a demonstration in which SpaceX cold-gas thrusters are applied to the next-generation Roadster to lift the vehicle off the ground for a certain distance.

This is not the first time Tesla has delayed the next-generation Roadster reveal schedule. Tesla first unveiled the second-generation Roadster in 2017 and said production would begin in 2020, but an actual release did not happen. The reveal schedule was later moved through late 2025, April 1, 2026, late April, August and then Oct. 1, and it has now been postponed again to Oct. 15. Tesla is presenting the production timing as "2027 or 2028."

Elon Musk (일론 머스크), Tesla's chief executive officer, has said at the 2025 annual shareholders meeting that he had once planned to hold the Roadster reveal event on April Fools' Day this year. At the time, he mentioned that if the schedule was postponed again, he could say it "was just a joke."

The next-generation Roadster first appeared at Tesla's 2017 event unveiling the electric truck Semi. Tesla at the time set the base price at about $200,000 and took $50,000 deposits from prospective buyers. It allowed reservations for the limited 1,000-unit Founders Series by paying $250,000.

Roadster development later showed little progress for a long period, but the project was pushed again after Musk directed Tesla to redesign the second-generation Roadster. The process also included a concept using SpaceX thrusters.

Criticism has continued over the Roadster's long-delayed release. Sam Altman (Sam Altman), OpenAI's CEO, wrote on X last year about the next-generation Roadster he reserved, saying "7.5 years felt like a long time to wait." Musk claimed that Altman had received a refund of his deposit.

The actual production timing is also still far off. Musk has said he expects it will take more than 1 year after the next-generation Roadster is unveiled before it enters actual production.
