Retail demand lifts Kosdaq for second session
Retail investor funds flowed into the Kosdaq, helping it hold above the 850 level and extend gains for a second session. On the KOSPI, the index ended higher after opening lower, with foreigners and institutions net buyers while retail investors sold. Large-cap shares including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix rose, while LG Energy Solution, KB Financial Group and Hyundai Motor fell. The won edged up against the dollar in Seoul trading.

It is hard to know before joining whether a workplace is genuinely good or just looks that way. An analysis of 12 million workers’ career histories at 1,750 large U.S. employers from 2019 to 2024 scored jobs by promotion odds within five years, three-year retention and pay. Results showed wide gaps by role inside the same company. Amazon and Salesforce ranked highly for tech roles, while others showed mixed results.

Youth Future Savings account draws 1,385,000 subscribers; FSC to review additional sign-ups in September
The first recruitment for the Youth Future Savings account drew 2,343,000 applications, with 1,385,000 people completing enrolment, the Financial Services Commission and Korea Inclusive Finance Agency said on Aug. 11. A total of 1,547,000 applicants passed eligibility screening. Authorities are reviewing an additional sign-up period in September as inquiries continue. The call centre received about 8,300 inquiries about further recruitment.
