Google Gemini app tops 1 billion monthly users
Google's Gemini app has surpassed 1 billion monthly active users. TechCrunch reported that CEO Sundar Pichai said on social media platform X that Gemini is among Google's fastest-growing products and is the company's 14th product to exceed 1 billion monthly users. The figure covers the standalone Gemini app only, excluding usage through Search, Workspace and Android. Google said 63 percent of Gemini users talk directly to an assistant via voice features.

OpenAI releases ChatGPT desktop app for Linux
OpenAI has released a preview version of its ChatGPT desktop app for Linux worldwide. TechCrunch reported that the launch means ChatGPT and Codex now support all major desktop operating systems. Linux users can use ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work and Codex in a desktop environment. The supported versions include Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04 LTS Desktop, Debian 13, and Fedora 43 and 44.

Uber sells entire stake in Serve Robotics
Uber has sold its entire stake in autonomous delivery robot company Serve Robotics, according to a regulatory filing. Serve learned of the sale only after the disclosure, TechCrunch reported. The filing shows Uber has been reducing its Serve holdings since 2025 and has now sold the rest. The two companies have recently shown differences in business direction, and Serve cited a slowdown in Uber-sourced delivery volumes in the second quarter.
