[DigitalToday reporter Hwang Chi-gyu (황치규)] Solv Protocol, a Bitcoin-focused DeFi project, is switching its cross-chain infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink.
The Block reported on May 7 that Solv Protocol is phasing out LayerZero support for SolvBTC and xSolvBTC on Corn, Berachain, Rootstock and TAC. It selected Chainlink CCIP as its official cross-chain infrastructure.
Solv Protocol said it reviewed its existing bridge after recent industry security incidents. It said CCIP provides the strongest security through a structure with enhanced security by default, risk controls and a pre-monitoring system. It added that CCIP is widely seen as the "gold standard" for decentralised interoperability and that the White House has officially recognised it as key digital asset infrastructure.
The switch followed last month's hack of LayerZero-based Kelp DAO. The attacker exploited a single-validator setup in an omnichain token bridge and stole 116,500 rsETH, with losses tallied at $292 million. North Korea's Lazarus Group is suspected to be behind it.
After the incident, LayerZero and Kelp DAO sparred over responsibility. LayerZero claimed it had warned that Kelp DAO was using a 1-to-1 decentralised validator network configuration. Kelp DAO countered that the setup was LayerZero's default onboarding recommendation and said 47 percent of LayerZero apps use a single-validator configuration. Kelp DAO also announced earlier this week it would switch to Chainlink.
