Meanwhile raises $37.5 million to expand overseas sales

Bitcoin-based life insurer Meanwhile, backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, has raised $37.5 million, The Block reported on Oct. 9. The round was led by Bain Capital Crypto, with existing investors including Hun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital and Apollo participating. The Bermuda-based firm said total funding has topped $180 million. It reported assets of 1,183 bitcoin at end-2025 and forecast profit growth this year.

Crypto industry split over AI-driven encryption break scenario

The crypto industry is divided over a warning by Ethereum researcher Justin Drake (저스틴 드레이크) that AI could undermine cryptocurrency security. Drake said the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm, or ECDSA, could be cracked before “q-day,” and even without quantum computers, through advances in mathematics. He urged users to move funds gradually to new addresses that do not reveal public keys. Coinbase’s Yehuda Lindell rejected the claim as baseless, while Dragonfly’s Haseeb Qureshi backed it.

BitMine to stop buying ethereum on reaching 5 percent of supply

Tom Lee (Tom Lee), chairman of BitMine Immersion Technologies, will stop accumulating ethereum once the company’s holdings reach 5 percent of total supply, crypto outlet U.Today reported on Oct. 8. Lee set the 5 percent threshold as a “hard cap” at the Token2049 event. BitMine holds more than 6 million ETH, about 4.9 percent of supply, and would need to buy about 100,000 more ETH to hit the cap.
